OLD BAY® to Spice Up 140th Preakness Stakes as Official Seasoning

Horseracing fans at home can experience the flavors of Preakness by serving OLD BAY-infused menu items at viewing parties

Hunt Valley, Md. (May 12, 2015) – Maryland’s most celebrated race, and second jewel of the Triple Crown, just got a dose of delicious Chesapeake flavor with the designation of OLD BAY as the Official Seasoning of the 140th Preakness Stakes. For the first time, fans at Pimlico Race Course can enjoy crab cakes and Bloody Marys flavored with OLD BAY, the iconic taste of the region for more than 75 years.

Not planning to make it to the track on Saturday, May 16th? Don’t worry. The OLD BAY kitchens have created a menu for the spectators watching with family and friends in the comfort of their own homes.

Whether you’re hosting a large viewing party or just having a couple friends over, these tasty OLD BAY dishes are easy to make, and sure to please your guests as they cheer on the thoroughbred stars:

  • Classic OLD BAY Crab Cakes: The original recipe that appeared on the back of the OLD BAY can is sure to bring the true taste of Maryland to any Preakness Party.

  • Spiced Shrimp Cocktail: Easy and tasty – cook shrimp in a mixture of OLD BAY, water and cider vinegar.

  • OLD BAY Buffalo Wings: What’s a viewing party without wings? Toss OLD BAY grilled wings in a mixture of melted butter and hot sauce.

  • OLD BAY Grilled Corn Pico de Gallo: Grilled corn, jalapeño pepper and OLD BAY perk up the flavor of pico de gallo in this colorful DIY bruschetta recipe.

  • Bloody Mary and Martini: Don’t forget the race-day cocktails! These classic party drinks get a flavorful twist with OLD BAY.

In addition to its designation as the Official Seasoning of Preakness, OLD BAY is sponsoring the OLD BAY Nation race earlier on Saturday.

“We are excited to bring the Chesapeake Bay region’s favorite seasoning to this year’s Preakness Stakes and hope fans both in the stands and at home can celebrate and experience the flavors of Preakness while cheering for their favorite horses,” said Amy Gifford, Senior Product Manager, OLD BAY.
